In 1983, the Kiwanis Children’s Fund established the George F. Hixson Fellowship. Named for Kiwanis International’s first president, Hixson Fellowships are awarded for $1,000 or higher contributions to the Kiwanis Children’s Fund.
Kiwanis Club of Canby recognizes one or two members each year by contributing to the Kiwanis Children’s Fund in their honor, in appreciation of members who have contributed significantly to Kiwanis’ history of generosity. The club’s current Hixson Fellows meet annually to select the new honorees.
Kiwanis co-coordinators Luana and Angela recently attended the Oregon Conference for The Dolly Parton Imagination Library. The theme, “Our Next Chapter,” brought together local partners from across Oregon who are working to bring the gift of books to children in their communities.
Local partners, like the Kiwanis Club of Canby, play an important role in making this program possible. We raise the portion of the cost that the Dolly Parton Imagination Library Foundation does not cover, currently $31 per year for each child enrolled, while also enrolling children, maintaining the local database, spreading the word, and helping families access this incredible program.
We left feeling inspired and ready for our next chapter continuing this incredible program, expanding its reach, and helping carry Dolly’s legacy forward, one child and one book at a time. 📚❤️
If you’d like to help us keep books in the hands of Canby area children shop and donate at the @canbykiwanisthrift store. Proceeds from the thrift store fund the Imagination Library for Canby and Mulino, as well as many other programs for children in our area.
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our dear friend and fellow Kiwanian, Keith Murphy.
Keith gave so much of himself to Kiwanis and to our community. He served as a Past President and District Lieutenant Governor, supporting the Doernbecher Children’s Cancer Program, encouraging the Key Club at Canby High School, the Kiwanis Canby Community Food & Toy Drive, The Kiwanis Kiddie Caper Parade and so much more.
And if you knew Keith, you knew he didn’t just lead from the sidelines. He was there working, volunteering, and getting things done. He gave countless hours to the Kiwanis Thrift Store and was always ready to lend a hand wherever he was needed.
We hold Keith in our hearts for all the years he gave to Kiwanis, to our community, and to the many people whose lives he touched. We are better because he was here, and we will carry his example of service with us.
