Making the holidays merry and bright for local families
Started by Kiwanis in 1958, the Kiwanis Canby Community Food & Toy Drive is a holiday tradition that brings the entire community together. Civic groups, church groups, scouting troops, businesses and individuals step up to volunteer and donate. In 2025 we served 532 families, with toys for 980 children and food for 2,158 people.
This program serves residents who live within the boundaries of the Canby School District and who are not receiving assistance from another holiday program. Ours is a totally local event and we do not receive toys from the Portland TV toy drives or other events outside our community.
We provide gifts for children from newborn to 18 years old, plus food gift cards for anyone in need in our community. People without children are also eligible for food gift cards. We do not require proof of need but we do require proof of living in the Canby School District. Those who fill out an application by the deadline can receive a food gift card, plus toys and gifts for kids 18 and under.
How to register for assistance
Registration begins in early November. Watch this space for details. Registration deadline is December 12
Paper registration forms will be available at Canby Kiwanis Thrift Store, Canby Public Library, Canby Adult Center, and To:gether Canby.
Help by hosting a toy barrel
More than 50 local businesses helped us gather toys for nearly a thousand children last year. We are currently contacting these businesses again to see if they would like to host a bright red toy barrel from early November until December 12. If you’d like to join the fun, use the contact form on this website and we’ll get in touch. Or contact us through our Facebook @canbykiwanis
Your donations help
Thanks to the community’s generous financial help, we are able to provide food gift cards to those who need help. The cards enable recipients to purchase the food of their preference for a holiday meal. Gift cards cannot be used for alcohol or tobacco.
Donations of any amount are welcome! At the following donation levels, your business can also be recognized on our social media, in event publicity, and on our website.
PLATINUM (donations of $5,000 and above) GOLD (donations of $2,500 and above) SILVER (donations of $1,000 and above) BRONZE (donations of $500 and above)
