Started by Kiwanis in 1958, the Kiwanis Canby Community Food & Toy Drive is a tradition that brings the entire community together. Many civic groups, church groups, scouting troops, businesses and individuals step up to volunteer and donate. In 2023 the community provided toys for 1,047 children, and food gift cards for 498 families. We served a total of 2,192 people. In December 2024 we served 510 families, with toys for 1,100 children and food for 2,300 people.
This program serves residents who live within the boundaries of the Canby School District and who are not receiving assistance from another holiday program. We coordinate with the county-wide Clackamas Compassion in Action to ensure that everyone in the county gets the help they need. Ours is a totally local event – we do not get toys from the Portland TV toy drives or any other event outside our community. People who live alone and adults without children are eligible for food gift cards. We also provide gifts for children 0-18 years old. We do not require proof of need – all you need to do is fill out an application by the deadline and you can receive a food gift card, plus toys and gifts for kids 18 and under.
Thank you, volunteers! /Gracias voluntarias
Volunteers from throughout the community came together to help. Some especially helpful groups were Bridging Cultures, Canby Rotary, Canby Fire, Canby School District, Cub Scout Pack 503, Boy Scout Troop 258, and Canby High School Key Club.
