Make the holidays merry and bright for local families
Started by Kiwanis in 1958, the Kiwanis Canby Community Food & Toy Drive is a tradition that brings the entire community together. Many civic groups, church groups, scouting troops, businesses and individuals step up to volunteer and donate. In 2024 we served 510 families, with toys for 1,100 children and food for 2,300 people.
This year, our distribution dates for registered families will be December 12 at the Clackamas County Fairgrounds. On December 13, we will deliver unclaimed gifts, as long as the recipient is home.
This program serves residents who live within the boundaries of the Canby School District and who are not receiving assistance from another holiday program. We coordinate with the county-wide Clackamas Compassion in Action to ensure that everyone in the county gets the help they need. Ours is a totally local event. We provide gifts for children 0-18 years old without any toys from the Portland TV toy drives or other event outside our community. People who live alone and adults without children are also eligible for food gift cards. We do not require proof of need – all you need to do is fill out an application by the deadline and you can receive a food gift card, plus toys and gifts for kids 18 and under.
Applications will be available starting November 1 at Canby Kiwanis Thrift Store, Canby Adult Center, Canby Public Library, and (once reopened) at The Canby Center. Bridging Cultures will also have applications available during their food distribution events.
We love volunteers!
Volunteers from throughout the community come together to help. We love the support we get from groups like Bridging Cultures, Canby Rotary, Canby Fire, Canby School District, Cub Scout Pack 503, Boy Scout Troop 258, and Canby High School Key Club. Individuals are also welcome. Watch this space — starting December 1, we’ll look to the community to help sort toys and get everything ready.
